Oil, 14" x 18"
Artist friends Carol Bruder, Mun Hee Park and myself are having a show up at the Locust Valley Library, 170 Buckram Rd., Locust Valley, NY, 11560, 516-676-8164 from Oct. 2nd through Nov. 2nd, 2010. We just got everything up on the walls of this very nice library and it all looks great! Carol & Mun Hee are oil painters with landscapes, street scenes and boats as their focus for this show. I have a mix of my watercolors and oil paintings with a focus on floral paintings, garden scenes and paintings from Central Park, NY and my recent trip to France. The painting pictured here is from the beautiful garden of Giverny, Monet's home and creation. For garden lovers it truly is a slice of heaven on earth! It's tough depicting water in oil paint--I had to darken the values on the trees and sky reflection to make it look like water and keep all edges soft. In watercolor all I would do is paint the scene wet-in-wet, then when dry go over it with a pale wash of the sky color and that instantly makes it look like a water reflection. You would have to mask out the lily pads or go over them with gouache. For more info on the show see my Art Show Calendar page on my website: www.nancywernersbach.com.
Happy Painting!
Nancy
