Happy to announce that this painting was accepted into the American Artists Professional League 82nd Grand National Exhibition, Nov. 2nd through Nov. 12, 2010 at the Salmagundi Club, 47 Fifth Ave., New York, NY 10003. Reception is Sunday, Nov. 7th, from 2 to 5pm. Open for viewing daily from 1 to 5pm.
I've been painting seashells for many years now and this is one of a series of large oil paintings that have finally gotten me into 3 national exhibits this year. I think it's good to focus on something that you really love to paint and keep working at it until you find a way to make a unique statement. One way to figure out your focus might be to ask yourself what would you paint if you could only paint one subject. When I have too many painting ideas all jumping up and down yapping like annoying small dogs, I try to sit quietly with all my reference material and sketch out a few different things until one idea comes through the loudest and won't be ignored. What works for you?
